Carlos Rodriguez is the author of The Ugly Underneath, a firsthand account of the emotional toll of investigating crimes against children and the resilience it demands. A former crimes-against-children detective sergeant and FBI Task Force Officer, Carlos retired from the Washington State Patrol after 27 years of service. Throughout his career, he led teams focused on complex investigations, with his most meaningful work centered on protecting children from sexual abuse and commercial sexual exploitation. Carlos led WSP’s Missing and Exploited Children Task Force, where he developed proactive investigative operations targeting those who attempt to sexually exploit children, which have been nationally modeled and replicated in jurisdictions across the country. He is a nationally recognized subject matter expert who presents on human trafficking and child exploitation at national and international conferences, and volunteers with the International Association of Human Trafficking Investigators (IAHTI).
Carlos currently work at the San Diego Unified School District, having just launched their Human Trafficking Prevention Program and will be at the upcoming IAHTI conference in St. Pete, this coming September.
